This is a great basic wall safe for the money you pay (I paid $95). Installation is a snap, around 15 minutes with basic tools and basic knowledge. Can't understand why some of the other reviewers had so much trouble. You cut a hole, slap the safe in and bolt it to the studs....pretty simple really.
One time saving tip is to make sure you pre-drill a pilot hole into the stud. The lag bolts that are supplied with the unit can strip very easily if you try and screw directly into a non-drilled stud.
Yes the safe is not "huge" but the depth easily accommodates all of our papers and jewelery we don't want to leave unprotected and it opens easily. Had a few scratches from the staples they used on the outside shipping box but not enough to return it for another one.
Buy it, its a good safe and doesn't cost an arm and a leg!
As ExpectedAugust 19, 2010 Mark P The LockState LS-52EN Safe was as expected. The controls are easy use and installation was fairly easy as well. I needed to put mine directly over a stud, so I removed a part of the existing stud and built up the sides to mount the safe. The job took me about two hours, but would have been 10 minutes for a standard installation. I did buy different lag screws to mount it instead of the ones given. The one complaint was the packaging of the shelves...they were not scured properly, so they bounced all over the inside during shipping causing some very minor scratches...no big deal.

My safe from this company arrived in a beaten up box made by the usual lack of quality standards found by most Chinese manufacturers and their importers. I could tell just by looking at the unopened packaged that there would be damage and there was. The upper left corner of the safe flange was severely bent due to a very hard drop on, most likely, a concrete floor. The cheap styrofoam corner bracing (meant more for items a tenth this safe's weight) was shattered and in multiple pieces in the box. This is not the first time someone has complained about this bad packaging/damaged goods issue. This company REFUSES to correct the issue.
Read other's comments on the safe and its performance, I pretty much agree. But I would not buy this safe again due to lack of repsect for customer's wishes to improve. We'd all pay an additional buck to put better corner bracing on the product! I think that this company just doesn't give a schitte.
I now have a brand new safe that was beaten up before I even touched it and had to repair the damage myself. BULL!
It is a good thing it is hidden behind something on the wall!
Reconsider your purchase. Do you feel lucky? I took that chance and lost.

Got this when some prescription medications turned up missing after a family get together. With the state of prescription drug use by teens today, I think a lot of people should probably own one of these. My children are too young for that particular problem, but this safe does address the problem of them accessing medications out of curiosity (or whatever drives small children to do some of the mind-boggling things they do). I don't know how effective it would be against a concerted effort to break into it and I didn't purchase it for that reason so much, but it would protect against someone looking for quick access to whatever. I put this in a wall and then put some hinges on the back of a picture that just covers it, so unless you know where to look, you wouldn't even know that there is a safe in my house. It was easy to install for me but I have done a lot of home remodeling and can manage drywall and even framing work, both of which were necessary in my installation. Depending on where you put the safe, you may only need to cut out a hole in the drywall and screw it in. I wouldn't plan on storing anything larger than medications or maybe some jewelry in this. The depth is obviously limited by the depth of the averagle home wall, which is probably around 4" deep, with the stud and the facing sheet of drywall. So don't plan on putting stacks of money and stocks and things that you see in wall safes in the movies, but several handguns would fit and the items mentioned earlier. For those things, this is perfect. The only down side to me is that the beep that sounds when you press a key to enter the combination is VERY loud. One day I might see if I can dismantle the innards and disable it, but there doesn't appear to be any easy way to do that or turn the volume down. Other than that, I highly recommend.
